Monte Fort : Built by the Jesuits in the 16th century, a cannonball fired from here in 1622 stopped a Dutuch invasion when it hit a ships gunpowder magazine.The Museum of Macau ( Museu de Macau ) is here also.

 

Kuan Lam Temple

 

A 400 year old temple dedicated to Kuan Lam the bodhisattva of Mercy. On Avenida do Coronel Mesquita .Constructed in the late Ming Dynasty, Kun Iam Temple was presided in its early years by the Famous Monk Dashan of Lingnan School. Here there is the stone altar of the of the Ming Dynasty (1627), and an ancient bell cast in the in the Ming Dynasty . It is also known as the site of the first Sino-American treaty which was signed in 1844.

The Loyal Senate, graceful Portuguese colonial architecture . The Senado was built in 1784 . In 1999 it became the headquarters of the "Institute of Civic & Municipal Affairs" . The name ' Loyal Senate ' comes from the King of Portugal after Spain occupied Portugal in 1580, yet the Macau Senate refused to fly the Spanish flag . the building is still in use by the government of Macau . You can see many examples of Portuguese blue and white azulejo tiling here .

The Senado Square The Portuguese style tiled plaza, is in front of the Leal Senado with many restored colonial buildings and shops . On the east side of the square is Santa Casa de Misericordia ( Holy House of Mercy ), founded in 1569 by Dom Belchior Carneiro, there is a small museum upstairs .There is also the General Post Office, and St. Dominics Church

The Cathedral of Saint Paul . Built from 1582 to 1602 by the Jesuits, the Cathedral was the largest Catholic church in Asia at the time . it was destroyed by a fire during a typhoon in 1835. The Fortaleza do Monte overlooks the ruin.The ruins now consist of the southern stone façade ? intricately carved between 1620 and 1627 by Japanese Christians after the in exile from their homeland and local craftsmen under the direction of Italian Jesuit Carlo Spinola . There is a musuem with many religious artifacts were also found together with the relics of the Japanese Christian martyrs and the monastic clergy that were found when it was restored in 1995 .

A wonderful example of 1960s architecture .One of the most famous casinos in Macau . The casino is owned by the Sociedade de Turismo e Diversões de Macau, a Stanley Ho company. The fort and chapel were constructed between 1622 and 1638, after an unsuccessful attempt by the Netherlands to capture Macau from Portugal. The lighthouse was constructed between 1864 and 1865, the first western style lighthouse in east Asia or on the China coast
